The idea for the album cover was to create an image of a daunting, sinister monument which would be consistent with the lyrics to the album’s title track. For this, I turned to some photos I took on a first generation digital camera of the United Nations building in New York. I played-up the poor quality and JPEG artefacts by turning them into a gritty texture and mirrored the building in both directions to create an “X” like structure. The artwork is constructed like a silkscreen print with multiple layers of flat colour. To add to the sense of impending doom, I placed a tiny pictographic icon of a man in the sea below the structure.
I also created a series of 12 artworks for each song on the album which were included as postcards with the digipak CD and also exhibited as limited-edition canvas prints at a gallery in Sydney in 2011.
